I get A LOT of comments on my hair, and 98% of those people ask me what I do to it. So I figured I’d blog about it! But I do want to say that following this regimen may not work for your hair because everyone’s natural is different. Some of the products that may hair responds to might not work for your hair. So the BEST thing to do is to follow these steps and substitute my go-to’s for products that make your hair flourish!
Now let’s get started, shall we?
Step 1: Wash
This is kind of obvious though some people do pre-poos and some people DC (deep condition) first. But, I don’t do either. I wash my hair with this lovely stuff:
My hair doesn’t respond well to co-washes (specifically As I Am) because I have fine strands. So my hair strips very easily. But this stuff is amazing. Not only does it get my hair clean without stripping it of its natural oils, my hair is very soft and moisturized afterwards.
Step 2: First condition and detangling
I slather Suave Naturals conditioner on my hair. Like, I saturate my hair with it then I use a detangling comb. When I’m combing, I start at my root and slowly pull the comb through. I know some folks can’t do that because your curls coil over one another very tightly. So, again, detangle in a way that works for you!
Step 3: Deep condition
I wash my hair every two weeks (again, my strands can’t handle every week) and I DC EVERY SINGLE TIME I WASH MY HAIR. Some people DC once a month but I recommend doing it as often as possible. You can’t over deep condition so doing it every week will only make your hair stronger, never weaker.
The Shea Moisture Anti-Breakage Masque made my hair thicker and less brittle over time. I didn’t think it was going to work but it definitely proved me wrong. After a month, my hair was shinier, thicker, less brittle, less dry, and slightly more elastic. It’s good stuff and it’s on the cheaper end of natural hair care products.
Step 4: LOC method
Using the Liquid-Oil-Cream method helps my hair retain moisture. It seals my follicle with moisture and maintains my twist-outs. Now a lot of people use just water as their liquid, but that doesn’t make any sense to me. So after rinsing out my deep condition, I use a water-based leave-in for extra great conditioning and moisture. Beautiful Textures Tangle Taming Leave-In is filled with natural oils and it smells PHENOMENAL.
For my O, I use grapeseed oil. It’s lighter than EVOO (extra virgin olive oil) but it seals just as well. And for my C, I use Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie. It defines my curls and it moisturizes SO WELL…SO WELL
Step 5: Gel and twist
I seal in my LOC with Eco Styler. It has phenomenal hold and my hair stays softer longer when I incorporate this into my regimen.
Well, I hope this helps someone. And, last tip, MOISTURIZE DAILY!!!!
